Just found a collection of incredible photos of pollution titled Pollution in China by photographer Lu Guang {link}. Seeing this makes me ill.

The Fun Theory {link} is a project aimed at finding ways to get people to do stuff they should be doing, but for the most part aren’t. Taking the stairs is an excellent example. What a great idea!

A beautiful video for WWF {link} by Wyld Stallyons {link}.

This reminds me. I think for my 2010 New Year’s resolutions (I’ve started a new tradition where I create a list of 10 things to do in the next year), I’ll start writing to companies and those that represent me in goverment. I’ve been doing what I can to improve myself and my home (composting with worms, starting a container garden, not using any harsh chemicals for cleaning, etc) Now it’s time to expand out.

No Impact Man {link} has a movie coming out September 4th and it looks really great!

No Impact Man is my experiment with researching, developing and adopting a way of life for me and my little family—one wife, one toddler, one dog—to live in the heart of New York City while causing no net environmental impact. To do this, we will decrease the things we do that hurt the earth—make trash, cause carbon dioxide emissions, for example—and increase the things we do that help the earth—clean up the banks of the Hudson River, give money to charity, rescue sea birds, say.

Carrotmob! {link} Carrot Mob, for example, uses social-networking applications like Twitter, Facebook or a blog to get huge numbers of consumers to patronize a store most willing to make a change. (Mother Nature Network {link})

How cool is this? I’ve always heard that everytime you make a purchase, you make a vote. This is an excelllent way to see the direct benefits of your vote. Purchasing power. Ain’t it a sweet thing? Also check out 1BOG {link}, another project under Virgance {link}, the mother company of Carrotmob.

Okay, so also, halfway through the video there’s this weird rap video montage scene thing - you can skip ahead to 5:20 to get back to the good stuff. (It just seems to go on FOREVER!)

A toilet! That turns poo into energy! Without using water. Say hello to the Loowatt! {link}

She makes a good point. We’re flushing potable water down the toilet. Literally. That’s insane.

Seafood guide - This is a synthesis and redesign of seafood recommendations from the Monterey Bay Aquarium 			Seafood Watch {link}, 			which focus on sustainability, warnings about toxins (mercury and PCBs) from the 			Environmental Defense Fund {link}, 			and some ancillary info from 			sustainablesushi.net {link}. I found it on Neil Banas’ website {link}
And gosh darn it all! Yellowtail (my favorite fish for sushi) ranges from eco-medium to eco-OH-MY-GOD-YOU’RE-GOING-TO-DIE-AND-KILL-MOTHERNATURE-TOO.
Crap.

NASA’s satellites have captured the changes humans have had on the planet in the last decade.

This video shows a sequence of deforestation in Rondonia, Brazil. It’s so sad, isn’t it?

You can check out more of these sequences here, here, and here.

Straws by Carli {link}.
Straws! Made out of recycled, pyrex-tough glass! Woah, mamma! I hit the environmentally friendly jack pot!
They’re expensive, but completely worth it. Thinking about splurging on a pair of smoothie sized straws!
