This week’s CSA! Looks like we got: cucumbers, green bell, cayenne, and pablano peppers, turnips + greens, beets + greens, daikon radish, carrots, cilantro, broccoli, watermelon radish + greens, zucchini, mesclun mix, green beans, annnnd I think that’s it!
Sorry for the crappy photo. I ran outta digital juice in my fancy-pants camera and had to take a snappy with the ole camera phone.
Comments, concerns, questions, opinions?
Okay, let’s see if I can remember everything we got this week from our CSA. Beets (+ beet greens), green garlic (?), green beans, green and red bell peppers, eggplant, lots of cucumber, cayenne and serrano peppers, green tomatoes, spinach, field mix, collard greens and mesclun.
Let’s see if we can get through it all. I gave a bunch away this week, because we’d already gone through like half our previous veggies. So far, so good!
This week’s CSA bounty: turnips + greens, collard greens, watermellow radishes + greens, mesclun mix, green and red bell peppers, eggplant, kabocha squash, spagetti squash, green beans, basil, zucchini, and salad/field mix.
I have had so much salad lately, I think I’m going to become a leafy green something-or-another.
It’s awesome.
We got the next round of CSA veggies on Wednesday. Here they are!
We received: banana peppers, cayenne peppers, serrano peppers, red and green bell peppers, cucumber, turnips, yellow squash, zucchini, green tomatoes, eggplant, green beans, radishes, kabocha squash, collard greens, and mesclun mix.
We’re a little thankful that we received less leafy greens this week. I’ve never had so many salads in my entire life. But this is part of the fun. They hand you whatever they grew. You don’t get to choose. Some of the veggies - like the turnip greens have been surprisingly delicious in frittatas.
Chris and I just got involved in a local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). We hand a local farmer a certain amount of money at the beginning of their growing season and we get a bushel of veggies every week for 10 weeks.
This was our first batch of veggies on October 14th. It’s been really great so far! We’re having a tough time making it through everything each week and it was certainly overwhelming trying to figure out what to make first.
This week we got kobocha squash, yellow squash, cayenne peppers, serano peppers, green bell peppers, green tomatoes, eggplant, radishes, cabbage, arugula, baby collard greens, mustard greens, mesclun mix, tatsoi greens, and basil.

Chris and I are participating in our first CSA this fall through the Hands of the Earth Farm {link} and we’re both really excited about it. We visited the farm last night to have a peak at the place and it was absolutely beautiful! It’s sort of a weird time to check it out, because they’re in between the summer and fall seasons and a lot of the farm is being prepared for fall. But it was still really great to see! I can’t wait ‘til we get our first bounty this October!
Food, Inc. comes out June 12. And it is officially marked on my calendar. Anyone wanna go with me?
So glad I ditched drinking soda/pop/coke (whatever you kids are calling it these days!)… I actually felt a little nauseous when I read this. Especially since you lose on nutrional value… Gross.
Also, a little note at the bottom of the article which I almost didn’t read: “*FYI: The Coke itself is not the enemy, here. It’s the dynamic combo of massive sugar doses combined with caffeine and phosphoric acid. Things which are found in almost all soda.”

Cupcakes of change!
Chris and I made cupcakes last night in celebration of the new President! They turned out way better than I thought they would. That red is looking a little… gruesome though. Still delicious.
Christmas gifts! I made homemade truffles for most of my family and friends. This year, I was able to make plenty of delectable little treats for everyone I cared about!
The recipe comes from a brilliant girl over at Eggs on Sunday. Mine didn’t turn out as beautiful as hers (mine look more like poo than chocolates), but they were tasty nonetheless… Believe me, I did some quality testing before I sent them out!
I made some with hazelnut, some with cocoa and powdered sugar, and some drizzled with white chocolate. Mmmmm… Delicious!
This site makes me hungry… but now I know where to go when I want to cook, but I don’t know what. Mmmm! Pumpkin chocolate cookies! Yes, two please.

Even though the website is no longer up, it definitely makes you question what the heck is in the food we eat? What are we subjecting ourselves to? Now I want to do my own experiment and see how Burger King and Wendy’s compare… And I don’t even want to think about what’s in the food at Taco Bell.
